- Bellum, "first published as an independent work by Froben in April 1517," is a commentary by Erasmus on his previous essay entitled Dulce bellum inexpertis (Adagium 3001 in Froben's 1515 ed.). "Its origins go back to a letter which Erasmus wrote in March 1514."
