  • Archeologist, diplomat, and businessman, Correspondence, business records, MSS. of writings, a bibliography of Squier's writings (1876), and other papers relating to his diplomatic career, particularly in Honduras, and his interest in archeology and ethnology. Includes material concerning the Honduras Legation at Washington, D. C. (chiefly 1860-63); Squier's service as Honduran consul general (1863-73); the Honduras Inter-oceanic Railway, ldt. (1853-70); his diplomatic posts as charge d'affairs to Central America (1849-58); U. S. Commissioner to Peru (1863-65); the American Ethnological Society; and his numerous writings in the anthropological and ethnological field together with MSS. and drafts of articles, chapters from a book on Nicaragua, and his book, Ancient monuments of the Mississippi Valley (1948).
