Local Note
Berg Collection copy (Berg Coll Kazin N49 1978) formerly owned by Lester Cooper, to whom Kazin wrote a letter found in the book (see: m.b. Kazin A.l.s. to Cooper 1978) explaining that he did not intend to caricature Cooper with his New York Jew character Joey Roth; text highlighted in several places on p. 130-147, and with penciled note on first flyleaf, recto, pp 130-147 ‘Joey Roth,’ probably by Cooper.
Lester Cooper was a distinguished television producer at ABC, and, his children’s series Make a Wish won a Peabody Award in 1971; in 1973, he won an Emmy for his children’s programming.
