"Ten original color lithographs by Lois Long, life-size illustrations of fifteen species. Ten lithographs by John Cage in handwriting using superimpositions of five graded lithographic pencils"--Colophon. Cage's lithographs are reproductions of his handwritten texts, some with maps and other sketched material;
Consists of 11 bifolia of Arches paper, the first with t.p. and colophon and the remaining 10 with the prints, and 10 overlay sheets of translucent Japanese Kitakata paper, numbered I-X, with the letterpress, comprising transcriptions of the Cage lithographs and botanical statements by Smith. The latter serve as guardsheets overlaying the prints by Long.
Illustrations: 20 full-page lithographs alternately by Cage and Long on the rectos of 10 bifolia, numbered in ms. I-X. Printed from 12 stones and 59 aluminum plates, all effaced after printing. "The lithographs were drawn by artists John Cage and Lois Long and handprinted at Hollanders Workshop, Inc."--Colophon.
"The overlay text was set by Marion Lennihan in Computype Garamond and printed ... at Hollanders Workshop, Inc. The title and colophon page were designed by Bert Clarke and printed by A. Colish, Inc., Mount Vernon, N.Y."--Colophon.
Issued unbound, in portfolio by Moroquain, Inc., of dark blue denim lined with lighter blue denim.
