Giphanij. Cum gratia & priuilegio Caesareo. Argentorati [Strasbourg] : Excudebat Theodosius Rihelius.
- Earliest possible date of publication from date of Giffen's dedication to vol. 1: "XIIII. Kalend. Aprilis. A.D. MDLXXII [March 19, 1572]." Dedication to vol. 2 is dated "Idib. Septemb. [September 13]." Verzeichnis der im deutschen Sprachbereich erschienenen Drucke des XVI. Jahrhunderts (VD 16) dates the present edition "um 1588" (approximately 1588).
- Signatures: v. 1: *⁸ a-3n⁸ 3o⁴ (3o4 blank); v. 2: [sec.?]⁸ A-3H⁸. $5 signed, roman (in the present edition, +3H6, signed "Hhh v").
- Woodcut device of Theodosius Rihel on both title pages, reproduced in: Heitz, Paul. Elsässische Büchermarken bis Anfang des 18. Jahrhunderts, 1892. The device in the present edition is Heitz, plate 31, no. 10; also reproduced in: Silvestre, L.C. Marques typographiques, no. 854. The design is by Tobias Stimmer; see Heitz. Ornamental initials.
- There were at least three editions with the above imprint, paging and signatures. The chief distinguishing points are whether or not there is line numbering in the body of the text and the printer's device on the title page. In the edition described in the present record (in VD 16: ZV 8122, H 4699), the lines of verse are not numbered and the title page device is Heitz, plate 31, no. 10; in the variant editions, the lines are numbered by fives in inner margins of each page and the device is either Heitz, plate 32, no. 15 (in VD 16: ZV 26627, ZV 22787) or Heitz, plate 32, no. 18 (in VD 16: H 4660, H 4700). Other points: In the present edition of v. 1, the last page of the index has an entry beginning "Venus deorum princeps"; in the others, "Vnus deorum princeps"; in the present edition of v. 2, the first gathering in v. 2 is signed with an unidentified symbol (section mark?); in the others, it is signed with a cross; in the present edition, leaf 3H6 (v. 2) is signed "Hhh v"; in the others, it is unsigned. VD 16 records an additional edition of v. 1 (VD 16 H 4659), which has chief points as described for the present edition (no line numbering; Heitz no. 10 on title page), but is from a different setting of type, with the title page lacking commas after "Ilias" (in Greek and Latin) and other changes in preliminaries, after which the two editions are chiefly line for line the same; last page of index has "Vnus deorum princeps."
- Another edition with the same imprint has 913 and 837 numbered pages in v. 1 and v. 2, respectively; v. 1 omits year in date of dedicaton. See VD 16: H 4658, H 4697.
- "Ομηρου Βατραχομαχια" = "Homeri Batrachomyomachia" (The battle of the frogs and mice): v. 2, pages 700-717; "Ομηρου Υμνοι" = "Homeri Hymni" (the Homeric hymns): v. 2, pages 717-819. No longer assigned to Homer.
- "Homērou Batrachomyomachia" = "Homeri Batrachomyomachia" (The battle of the frogs and mice): v. 2, pages 700-717; "Homērou hymnoi" = "Homeri Hymni" (the Homeric hymns): v. 2, pages 717-819. No longer assigned to Homer.
