This program examines the problems facing the Sahel area of West Africa as a result of a catastrophic drought. Included is a definition of the Sahel, its location, the countries situated in this area, the dimensions of the seven year drought, the movement of the Sahara Desert, the losses through death of people and animals, the potential for this area, the obstacles and problems facing this section, the need to build a new social and economic order, our obligation to help, the work of the Africare organization, natural resources, the types of governments, the Russian and Chinese influence, the need and importance of U. S. activity in this area, and the needs and desires of these people.
