- John Hammond, a critic, speaks about Duke Ellington's early career and about the hardships that he and his band encountered. Hammond talks about his work with Columbia in reissuing records of various well-known singers and musicians. We hear about some of the great recording sessions that he has directed and some of the great recording sessions that he has directed, and some of the great musicians with whom he has worked. Hammond also mentions some of the jazz names that he discovered and sponsored such as Count Basie, Teddy Wilson, Charlie Christian, Billy Holliday and Meade Lux Lewis.
