- Moreau-Deschanvres' biography (p. xi-xx) is taken from v. 1 of his contemporary Edouard Fromentin's manuscript "Hommes et choses relatifs à Valenciennes," with annotations by Poinsignon.
- The catalogue (p. 1-73) is arranged chronologically, with descriptive notes and commentaries on the works listed by the author as well as those extracted from contemporary journals.
- "Fortune critique" (p. 75-80) consists mainly of facsims. of commentaries and interpetations of the artist's works, taken from contemporary journals with elaborations by Poinsignon.
