- L'histoire des plantes is a translation of Du Pinet's Historia plantarum (first published Lyon : G. Cotier, 1561). Of the 6 additional treatises, each with special t.p., the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th have statement of responsibility: Recueillie de Gesnerus & autres bons & approuuez autheurs; the 1st (L'histoire des plantes aromatiques) is largely based on the works of Carolus Clusius, Garcia de Orta and Nicolás Monardes; the 6th (Entier discours) is drawn from the principal source of Historia plantarum, P.A. Mattioli's Commentarii in libros sex Pedaci Dioscordis, and Jean Liébault's translation of Gesner's Thesaurus Euonymi Philiatri, book 2 (Quatre livres des secrets de medecine). The 2nd-6th were reissued by Guillaume Macé, 1619; cf. Duveen, D.I. Bib. alchemica et chemica, p. 248.
- Historia plantarum "includes much material taken from Mattioli and [Leonhart] Fuchs, both of which are based on Dioscorides' De materia medica"--NYPL 1911-1971, v. 217, p. 17. Sometimes described as an abridgement of Mattioli; cf. Nissen, C. Botanische Buchillustration, 1307; Wellcome cat. of printed books, I, 4152; cf. also Du Pinet's dedication in the original ed. For Du Pinet's French translation of Mattioli (Les commentaires sur les six livres ... Lyon : G. Cotier, 1561), cf. Nissen, 1312.

Valgrisi, Venice, in his Latin and Italian eds. of Mattioli from 1554, after drawings by Giorgio Liberale; cf. Mortimer, R. Italian 16th cent., 294. The 51 in Histoire des plantes aromatiques are reduced copies of ill. in Monardes' Historia medicina, pt. 2 (first published Seville, 1571) or Clusius' Latin abridgements of Monardes and Orta (various works, Antwerp, 1567 and later). The remaining cuts are chiefly reduced copies of ill. in Gesner's Historia animalium, books 1-4 (first published Zurich, 1551-1558).
