- Summary
- Views of dancer and choreographer Katherine Dunham. Portraits are quarter, half and full-length taken approximately between 1940 and 1980. Collection includes shots of Dunham in and out of dance costumes, alone and with other dancers; performing on stage; on location during the filming of "Carnival of Rhythm" (including one motion picture still) 1942; with Earl Sydnor in an Army(?) barracks, World War II; in group portraits with Reverend George Weston, Mrs. Maudelle Weston, Maurice Chevalier. Collection also includes publicity stills of Dunham promoting her appearance on the PBS Television show "Dance in America" and promoting the book "Katherine Dunham: A Biography." Finally included is a portrait of dancer Lenwood Morris; and dancers Doris Bennett, Norman Davis, Glory Van Scott and Vanoye Aikens performing in Dunham's "Rites de Passage."
