Summary

Portraits and views of South African activist and former political prisoner Nelson Mandela, mostly taken in 1990 during his visits to New York City, Namibia and Stockholm, Sweden. The collection consists of individual portraits and a candid shot of Mandela; views of Mandela with New York City mayor David Dinkins at Gracie Mansion and at a Harlem rally; with his wife, Winnie Mandela, and Namibian president Sam Nujoma attending Namibian independence celebrations; and meeting with former African National Congress leader Oliver Tambo and the Reverend Jesse Jackson in Stockholm. Also included are a view of Mandela with "ABC News Nightline" host Ted Koppel during a town hall meeting at Aaron Davis Hall, at the City College of New York; and Mandela sparring with South African boxing champion, Gerry Moloi, during Mandela's treason trial in 1957.
