Summary
Portraits of heavyweight boxing champion Joe Louis. Includes views of Louis boxing and meeting with other boxers such as Max Schmeling and Tony Galento. Also images of Louis in army uniform, attending army sports events, and other official functions as well as various promotional events. Among the many individuals included in portraits with Louis are Eleanor Roosevelt, Delores Parker, Juanita Hall, Lena Horne and his mother, Lillie Barrow Brooks. Also included are views of Louis at the Cotton Club, at various restaurants, golfing, and being interviewed on CBS radio by Bill Leonard, as well as portrait painting of Louis by Betsy Graves, and a copy of the front page of a newspaper announcing his knockout of Schmeling. Quarter, half and full length portraits are included.
