- Summary
- Views of big band leader Jimmie Lunceford approximately dated in the 1930's and 40s. Includes individual portraits of Lunceford in a studio and on stage leading his orchestra. Group portraits show Lunceford on stage with his orchestra, with trombonist Elmer Crumble and with saxaphonist Joe Thomas. Other portraits are of the Lunceford Orchestra; Dan Grissom with the Lunceford saxaphone section; the Lunceford Trio of Wilson, Thomas and Smith; the Lunceford Quartette of Wilson, Young, Thomas and Smith; and the Lunceford Orchestra brass section; and vocalist "Trummie" Young. All of these are publicity stills. Candid group portraits show Lunceford with Fabian Sevitsky "King of Modern Symphonic Music" and Glen Gray "King of Modern Syncopation." Three-quarter and full-length views are included.
