- Summary
- Portraits and views of former dean of the Atlanta University School of Social Work, lecturer, author and former executive director of the National Urban League, Whitney M. Young. The collection consists of studio and candid portraits of Young; Young in group portraits at National Urban League functions; and views of Young swimming with Senator Edmund Muskie (1971), at an unidentified political event, and during the Selma to Montgomery March (1965). Individuals depicted with Young include Lyndon Johnson, Mrs. Cernoria D. Johnson, Ramon S. Scruggs, Andy Stanfield, Frank Casey, Walter Reuther, Roy Wilkins, James Baldwin, James Foreman, Clarence Farmer, Ina Balin and Joan Baez. The collection also includes a portrait of Young's wife, Margaret, identified as Mrs. Whitney M. Young, Jr., and a photo of a memorial coin issued by the American Negro Commemorative Society struck in Sterling silver. Half, quarter, three-quarter and full-length views available.
