Summary
Portraits and views of concert pianist and composer Philippa Schuyler. Collection consists of studio and candid portraits of Schuyler (ca. 1940s-1960s); a photographic reproduction of the cover for the sheet music to "Five Little Pieces" (ca. 1938); two undated group portraits of Schuyler with her parents George and Josephine Schuyler; some views of Schuyler during concerts and meeting with well-wishers (1947, 1954, n.d.); a view of Schuyler with composer Deems Taylor during a CBS radio interview on "We the People!" (1946); an undated view of Schuyler with composer Everett Lee after finishing a radio broadcast with the Buenos Aires Symphony Orchestra; views of Schuyler arriving or departing at airports (n.d.); and group portraits and views of Schuyler attending various social functions, parties, and award presentations (ca. 1947-1966). Individuals depicted with Schuyler include actresses Hattie McDaniel and Hilda Simms, journalist Thelma Berlack Boozer, Nigerian sculptor Ben Enwonwu, photographer Carl Van Vechten, Haitian President Paul E. Magloire, conductor Dean Dixon, and baritone William Warfield. Full, half and quarter-length portraits are included.
