Summary

Portraits and views of Senegalese poet and president Leopold S. Senghor. Includes quarter-length studio portrait (n.d.) and quarter-length candid portrait (1971) of Senghor; candid portraits of Senghor with United Nations Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim (1974) and artist Stanley Pinckney (ca. 1970); a group portrait showing Senghor with Black Academy of Arts and Lectures president C. Eric Lincoln, Quebec Cultural Affairs Minister Frances Cloutier, and Senegalese officials (1971); and views of Senghor receiving an academic honor from Lincoln (n.d.), meeting United States president John F. Kennedy (1961), and with French president Georges Pompidou (n.d.). Includes a composite photograph of individual portraits of African authors depicting Senghor with Aimé Ceśaire, Édouard Glissant, León-Gontran Damas, David Diop, Tchicaya U Tom'si, Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo, Birago Diop, and René Maran.
