  • Illustrations: 7 prints from 8 blocks : wood engraving, b&w ; full-page (image 16 x 11 cm. or smaller). The ill. to "Tortoise shell" is printed from 2 blocks. Subject: Tortoises. -- 1 print : etching, b&w ; full-page (plate mark 11 x 8 cm.). Subject: Frontispiece port. of Lawrence. Captioned and signed in pencil.
  • Binding: Publisher's vellum, hand bound at Gray Parrot's bindery. Issued with the portfolio (quarter vellum and tan cloth) in quarter vellum and tan cloth case.

Accompanied by a portfolio containing: suite of the 8 prints, each numbered "IX/X" and signed in pencil; 2 "state proof[s]" of each print (the 2 blocks comprising "Tortoise shell" ill. here printed on separate sheets) and 2 "rejected print[s]," each labled and signed in pencil; and 3 original pencil drawings. The etchings are on cream Fabriano, the wood engravings on unwatermarked white wove paper (1st state) and cream Curtis Rag, the drawings on tracing paper and Curtis Rag. Laid in: Letter, Nov. 1983, from the artist to J.T. Rankin, curator of the Spencer Collection, identifying the drawings as "initial sketches" rather than the "re-drawings" included with the other 9 portfolios.
2 copies of the prospectus are laid in, one with the ill. signed in pencil.
