  • "300th anniversary publication, April 1989. The first edition of Nahum Tate's libretto ... was probably distributed to the audience at the 1st performance ... in April 1689 ... The present edition is not a facsimile but in substance follows the original printing"--P. [37].
  • Consists of an irregular-width folded strip formed from 3 joined sheets of orange Van Vliet paper, to which 12 shaped bifolia of various papers in various sizes and colors are attached (stitched in, mounted or inserted in slots by means of tabs); text, except t.p. (p. [1]), is printed on attached leaves, some of which form double leaves with the 5 double leaves of the strip.
  • Illustrative matter consists chiefly of colored pulp paintings executed by Claire Van Vliet on the recto of the folded strip and on some inserted leaves, with cutouts and colored paper and embedded cloth montage elements. "The book structure ... [was] designed by Claire Van Vliet. The book can be stood in a line or in a star-circle shape. Cutouts executed by Linda Wray"--P. [38].

Inserted in a pocket in the case; there is an empty pocket on the other side of the case to accommodate another compact disc.
  • Issued in a black/brown silk covered case (39 cm.) designed by Claire Van Vliet and made by Judi Conant, Guildhall, Vt.
