Local Note
The Schomburg Center Manuscripts, Archives & Rare Book Division has two copies of the book; the copy 1 is originally part of the 135 Street Branch, Circulation Department. It's a pre-1926 gift, added to the Schomburg collection when Catherine A. Latimer was the collection librarian. It includes ink stamps of: "Division of Negro Literature and History;" Property of the City of New York;" and "The New York Public Library: Circulation Department, 135 Street Branch, 103 West 135th St." It includes NYPL's bookplate of Reference Collection of Negro Literature, early processing markings of the original Schomburg Collection and NYPL's perforated stamps. Library bound in red texture cloth over boards, and gilt spine title. Copy 1 also includes the bookplate of "The Gordon Lester Ford Collection presented by his sons Worthington Chaucer Ford and Paul Leicester Ford to the New York Public Library"; & the New York Public Library Astor, Lenox and Tiden foundations, 1899's stamp and accession number," which indicated this copy was a duplicate item in the Ford Collection.
