Local Note
The Schomburg Center's Manuscripts, Archives & Rare Book Division's copy is originally part of the 135 Street Branch, Circulation Department. It's a pre-1926 purchase, added to the Schomburg collection when Catherine A. Latimer was the collection librarian. It includes ink stamps of: "Division of Negro Literature and History;" Property of the City of New York;" and "The New York Public Library: Circulation Department, 135 Street Branch, 103 West 135th St." It also includes NYPL's bookplate of "Reference Collection of Negro Literature." It also contains early processing markings of the original Schomburg Collection and NYPL's perforated stamps. Library bound in red cloth over boards and a gilt spine.
