Second inscribed leaf has also 2 occurences of a cipher of 2 intertwined C's, one occurence of a cipher of 2 C's joined to 2 ringed I's (resembling Greek letter phi) and 19 occurences of the sign "S fermé" (cf. Hobson, p. 85-119); similar ciphers used on bindings of Philippe de Mornay, seigneur du Plessis-Marly (cf. Manuel de l'amateur de reliures amoriées françaises, pl. 705).Provenance: Adolphus Fitz-Clarence, son of William IV, King of Great Britain (armorial bookplate with facsim. autograph); Robert Hoe, Paul Hirsch, Hans Fürstenberg (bookplates).
