  • Issued in maroon cloth-covered boards with title, author's name, and publisher's name gold-stamped on spine, and with dust jacket with painting of sleeping nude reproduced in brown monochrome on front wrapper and b&w photograph of author in front of Beat Hotel on back wrapper. Also with b&w photo of author in Beat Hotel as frontispiece.
  • Foreword by William S. Burroughs.
  • Several portions of the novel are written in cut-up style, with which Burroughs was experimenting at the Beat Hotel at the same time.
  • First published in German translation by Carl Weissner in 1975. This edition with English translation of excerpt from Weissner's preface to the German edition.
  • In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the Beat Hotel, at 9 Rue Git-le-Coeur, was the home for luminaries of the Beat generation, who resided there briefly or for extended periods: Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, Peter Orlovsky, William S. Burroughs, Brion Gysin, and Gregory Corso; also a resident was the Beat author and poet Harold Norse (1916-2009).
