- Views in the oil region of Pennsylvania and New York: primarily views along Oil Creek, but also views in the Tuna Valley of New York and Pennsylvania; primarily views of oil derricks, including the first oil well (1859, near Titusville), refineries, storage tanks, shipping in barrels on barges and by railroad tank car, shooting wells with nitrolycerine, pumping oil, oil refinery and tank fires, drilling and removing drills from wells; also includes views of the r.r. bridge over Kinzua Creek, including a construction view; views of wagons fording a river, a ferry, towns in the oil region including Bradford, Oil City, Summit City, Tidioute, Tarport and Limestone; views of homes including "Old Boyd House," a log cabin, with "oil exchange" in background, views of churches, burning oil tanks at Olean, N.Y., a train wreck on the B. B. & K. R. R., people picnicking at Flat Iron Rocks, and a view of a man on horseback paying a bridge toll at Petroleum Center; group portrait of men and boys in the hollow bole of a tree.
