  • Preliminary matter in letterpress, printed on both sides of leaf; text engraved (reproduction of calligraphy in the author's hand) on rectos only.
  • Signatures: A-D².
  • Illustrations: 49 prints (including t.p.) : engraving ; chiefly full-page (plate mark ca. 16 x 23 cm.). By Simon Vries (S. Frisius). Chiefly engraved instructions for calligraphy in lettre bâtarde; most leaves with a "command-of-hand" border. Title within allegorical/architectural frame; text preceded by port. of Le Gangneur after A.P. Du Moustier; plate 26 with 4 allegorical figures. Plate 27 (sample alphabet) on folded leaf (plate mark 16 x 40 cm.). Two small engravings in preliminary matter, one showing position of the hand.
