- Printed on the rectos of the 2nd leaves of 36 bifolia. Each bifolium, except the first, is numbered (1-31, I-IV) in blind on recto of blank first leaf; each bears publisher's blind stamp on second leaf.
- Collaborative work, consisting chiefly of prints reproducing images devised by Rauschenberg in response to the text written on offset plates by Robbe-Grillet. Ten prints present only Robbe-Grillet's text, 4 present only Rauschenberg's images. The first print (t.p.) and the last 4 (numbered I-IV) present respectively the title and the colophon (in English), all in Rauschenberg's hand; colophon prints also include images.
- "Book is exchange with image + text"--Colophon.
- Robbe-Grillet's text was incorporated in his Topologie d'une cité fantôme (1976).
- Printed from 37 stones and 27 plates, chiefly in 1 or 2 colors and/or grayish-black: gray, blue, red, yellow, orange and green. Stones effaced and plates cancelled after printing.
- Size of unfolded sheets: 70 x 105 cm.
- Issued unbound, in orange-red cloth solander case (74 cm.) with title stamped twice in red, in Rauschenberg's and Robbe-Grillet's hands. Case designed by the artist and made by Carolyn Horton.

Smith on white wove handmade Twinrocker paper, specially watermarked with artist's and author's signatures. Spencer Coll. copy is no. 29/36: all but last 4 sheets numbered 29/36 and signed in pencil by the author on verso of first leaf, and signed in pencil and dated '72-'78 by the artist on recto of second leaf (except sheet no. 1, dated '72-'79, and no. 5, signed by author and artist on verso of first leaf).
