- Summary
- The Wilhelmina F. Adams Photograph Collection documents her personal life, pofessional career, and civic activities. Personal photographs include portraits and snapshots of family and friends, and a number of portraits autographed to Wilhelmina from well known entertainers. The Collection also contains pages of a personal photograph album. Many of the album pictures are autographed to Mabel Ridley. Pictures document Wilhelmina and Mabel Ridley with friends in Atlantic City, Oak Bluffs (Martha's Vineyard), and West Palm Beach (Florida), in the 1920s. Several pictures include Adam Clayton Powell Jr. with friends and family at his summer home in Oak Bluffs. Personal photographs also include a number of portraits inscribed to Mabel Ridley from known entertainers.

- Biography
- Wilhelmina Ferris Adams was born in Florida around the turn of the century (ca. 1900) and moved to New York City when she was three months old. She was educated in the Public School system and attended Hunter College.Wilhelmina Adams was known for her fund raising talent, dedication to the Harlem Community, commitment to the advancement and education of African Americans, and her numerous civic activities. She was active in numerous organizations and served as president of the National Council of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs (New York Club), the Aeolian Ladies Charity, and the Utopian Neighborhood Club. As a Democratic Co-Leader of the 14th Assembly District Adams was the first Black women appointed as a delegate to the National Democratic Convention, in Chicago (1944). Adams was a patron of the performing arts and pursued careers as a fashion designer, interior decorator, and florist.
