Note
  • First-3rd eds. originally published 1587. For 1st ed. and subsequent eds. and issues, 1587-1612, see Lotz, A. Modelbücher, 110a-n; the present copy is similar but not identical to the 1594 issue recorded by Lotz as 110f (which has word "toutes" on t.p. spelled correctly, adds phrase "Douairiere de France" to the t.p. dedication, gives publisher's address as "Ruë Saint Iean de Latran, à la Salemandre," includes port. of Henri III (on t.p. verso) and author's pref. and port. of Queen Louise (on leaf A2), has privilege dated Nov. 12, 1594 and contains 76 leaves). For 1588 and 1598 eds., see Mortimer, R. French 16th cent., 546, 547; for variant 1594 ed. (apparently same as Lotz 110f) see Berlin. Ornamentstichsammlung, 1582.
  • "Dedie a la Royne." Dedication by the publisher (leaf A3r; A3v is blank) dated May 31, 1594.
  • "Extraict du privilege" (leaf A4v; A4r has sonnet) dated Mante, July 13, 1593, "De l'Imprimerie de Dauid le Clerc, rue Frementel, à l'Estoille d'Or" (as in Lotz 110g-h, both with 72 leaves, dated 1595 and 1596 on t.p., respectively).
  • Leaves B1-K4 printed on rectos only. Variant of t.p. (variations as in Lotz 110f) on leaf L1, where printing on both sides of leaf begins.
  • Signatures: A-S⁴.
  • Illustrations: 87 prints from 95 blocks : woodcut ; full-page. Two on folded leaves (H1,2). Comprise t.p. border, repeated once (ascribed by Lotz to Jehan Cousin; for description, cf. Mortimer); arms of Henri III and Henri IV; and 83 white on black patterns for lace and embroidery, of which 9 are printed from 2 blocks. In addition, 16 leaves (including t.p., leaf A1) have woodcut basic net pattern (black on white) printed on verso. Cutting ascribed by Lotz to the publisher, Jean Leclerc.
