- Views of visitors and workers at the Stage Door Canteen which was located in the theater district of New York City during World War II. Includes views of kitchen workers, the coat check, people socializing, singing, dancing. Includes views of Richard Beckhard, Anne Seymour, Shirley Booth, Langston Hughes, Osceola Archer, Saul Mauriber, Janet Fox, Morton Gottlieb, Dorothy Peterson, Tom McDermott, Irene Bordoni and many other volunteers from the theater community acting as hostesses and busboys. Includes view of Van Vechten posing with African American sailors, Russ Smith playing guitar, and Carl Kent drawing. Visitors include American and foreign sailors and soldiers, including "Killer Joe" Piro doing the jitterbug in his sailor's uniform. Includes view of plaque erected in 1955 to commemorate the canteen.
