Summary
At the 43rd NAACP Convention in 1952, Walter P. Reuther speaks about civil rights, democracy and freedom. He explains how the gap between technological development and social development is a central problem to the Afro-American race, and legislation along with education is the only way civil rights will be brought about. Reuther urges everyone to vote in the '52 election. Reverend James H. Robinson talks about the international implications of the NAACP and also of his travels to twenty-one countries. He elaborates upon his encounters and experiences and says the problem of America's race relations undercuts the U.S.' influence in the free world in a way that outruns anything else the U. S. stands for. Roy Wilkins speaks next on the "year of the hate bomb" as the NAACP calls it, and its various monstrous incidents such as the murders of Harry T. Moore and Samuel Shepard, and the Cicero, Illinois incident. He talks about civil rights progress in education and slow progress in equal employment, housing, and financing from banks in connection with FHA and speaks out against slum clearance or "Negro clearance". Wilkins discusses the candidates and their platforms in the presidential race and points out their weaknesses and strengths. He also urges everyone to vote and to use political action to gain civil rights.
