Summary
At a civil rights rally [n.d.], A. Philip Randolph introduces T. R. M. Howard of Mount Bayou, Mississippi, who talks about Mississippi's rampant racism and the White Citizens Council's reluctance to adhere to the new desegregation ruling. He claims that Americans must stop fighting for democracy around the world until it is established in our own country, he also encourages support for the NAACP. Reverend Ellis White of New York City announces funds collected at the meeting will go to the NAACP and talks about the Montgomery bus boycott and the struggles of the Negro farmers. Following is Eleanor Roosevelt who urges everyone to work together for integration, primarily in housing and the schools, she states that the corresponding laws must also be changed. She highly commends those involved in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Mrs. Roosevelt interviews Autherine Lucy, the first Negro to enter the University of Alabama who was forced out by mobsters. Ms. Lucy talks about taking her case to the Supreme Court and how the experience affected her.
