Summary
The National Committee for Rural Schools celebrates the first anniversary of the Supreme Court's anti-segregation decision of May 14, 1954. Joseph Glass, a member of the board of the Committee, asks for contributions of time or money and introduces Marion A. Wright, lawyer, educator, and president of the Southern Regional Council. Mr. Wright discusses the attitudes and events surrounding the desegregation decision. Joseph Glass then talks about the Committee's successful eye glass project for Southern children and the salt vaccine program which has recently received funding from the federal government. Kenneth B. Clark, director of the Northside Center of Child Development talks about the Supreme Court decision, its implications, objectives and the effects it will hopefully have on those who have been victims of segregation. Judge Julius W. Waring, president of NCRS and the judge responsible for the landmark decision, expresses his attitudes and beliefs on the subject. He tells about his civil rights plans beginning with the Clarendon County, S.C. case and says that above all, the government should protect every one of its citizens equally. Mrs. Waring is introduced by Joseph Glass and comments positively on the anniversary and the struggle.
