Summary
Ashley Totten is the featured speaker of this Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters meeting. Brother Goody delivers an invocation and William Bowe introduces Totten, the international secretary treasurer of the Brotherhood. Totten talks about the proposals that are currently being made to the Pullman Company in Chicago where A. Philip Randolph is involved in the negotiations. He emphasizes the concern of porters' sleeping conditions and talks about how the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters was responsible for Blacks being able to find employment with the 8th Avenue subway construction. Totten also talks about the struggles of the Brotherhood, and praises its workers on their hard work, honesty, integrity and outstanding reputation. William Bowe closes the meeting by leading the men in singing John Brown's Body.
