Summary
The regional conference of the Richmond Division of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters begins with a prayer led by T. T. Patterson. The Charlotte Symphonettes perform several songs and speakers include Ben McLaurin, Helena Wilson, M. P. Webster, and A. Philip Randolph. Wilson, the international president of the Ladies Auxiliary, speaks on the purpose and history of the Auxiliary and the broad spectrum of services they have provided in the areas of housing, health, and education. McLaurin explains the Brotherhood's development of the Fair Employment Practices Committee (FEPC), and the evolution of the March on Washington movement of 1941. He introduces M. P. Webster, the international vice-president, who gives a stirring address on the March on Washington movement, what prompted the porters to organize, and how the movement made people realize the power of Negroes.
