- At the Washington, D. C. regional conference of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, A. Philip Randolph discusses the report of the Railway Labor Executives Association on the dangers of the major railroads merging. Other items discussed are a bill to increase train speeds in order to compete with airplanes, amendments to the Railway Labor Act, a move to nationalize the railroads, the elimination of passenger service on the railroads, the need for more opportunities for Negroes on the railroad and job training for Blacks. Changes in ranks of officers are announced along with business to be taken care of following the recent death of M. P. Webster. Brother Spates discusses cases being brought to court and how he handles the hearings. He advises the members to be straightforward and honest with the grievance committee. Other delegates state grievances and make brief statements.
