"Printed upon Dard Hunter watermarked hand-made paper with the type made originally by him for this book"--Prospectus. Plates mounted on a variety of papers handmade by the author.
Samples comprise 2 sheets with American watermarks (Dove Paper Mill, ca. 1805, and a watermarked U.S. bank note by J.M. Wilcox, 1850); 6 samples of paper manufactured from the 15th to the 20th century, including part of a leaf of the Baskerville Virgil (1757), printed on the first wove paper, perhaps manufactured by James Whatman; and 3 sheets with light and shade watermarks (2 are self-ports. of Dard Hunter). The last 9 are lettered A-C, Ca, D-H.
Frontispiece is a reproduction of an etching by Ralph Pearson depicting Dard Hunter's mill, inscribed in Hunter's hand: Dard Hunter's mill.
Binding, publisher's, of half cream paper and paste paper boards; issued in handmade case.
