- Summary
- Helen Tamiris speaks with Walter Terry about how she and other choreographers pioneered concepts that became accepted principles of modern dance; the principles behind her choreography, especially her desire to communicate a particular truth; the influence on her choreography of the Great Depression [short gap]; her experiments with accompaniment, including her ideas regarding the relationship between music (or sound) and dance; her use of songs of the American Revolution [arranged by Geneviève Pitotin] in her dance Liberty song; her use of Negro songs of protest in How long, brethren? [compiled by Gellert and Siegmeister and arranged by Geneviève Pitotin]; Terry's concluding remarks.

- Interview with Helen Tamiris conducted by Water Terry at the 92nd Street YMHA in New York City, in 1950 or 1951.
- Sound quality overall is good, but there are occasional short gaps. In addition, in tracks 4- 5, the interviewee steps away from the microphone with the result that her voice is more difficult to hear and even at times inaudible.
