Summary
SUMMARY: November 4: Walter Terry discusses Tamiris' background, career and choreography. Ann Mackenzie, former member of Tamiris' company, discusses Tamiris' methods of choreographing, her philosophy of dance, and problems of reconstructing Tamiris' dances, specifically Women's song. Mackenzie directs an open rehearsal with music of Women's song which is being reconstructed and notated. Peggy Hackney of the Dance Notation Bureau takes notes and analyses the dance as the rehearsal proceeds. The completed reconstruction of Tamiris' Negro spirituals is performed, with music. A film of Tamiris herself dancing Negro spirituals concludes the program. -- November 6: Walter Terry discusses Tamiris' background and childhood, and relates anecdotes about her life. The remainder of the tape is similar to the November 4 performance.
