• Disc 1 (ca. 42 min.). Anton Dolin speaks with John Gruen about various paintings in his apartment; celebrating his 70th birthday; the great advances in ballet technique since his time; the International Ballet Competition at Varna [1974], including how impressed he was by Fernando Bujones; the factors that made Diaghilev's ballets successful without having to rely on virtuoso technique; his view that Mikhail Baryshnikov is the greatest dancer he has ever seen; Marie Rambert and her place in the history of British ballet; Tamara Karsavina including her current state of health; Karsavina as a dancer and as a person; Lydia Lopokova including her current life as a recluse; her acting ability; compares her to Anna Pavlova in that both had what he calls sex appeal [ends abruptly but continues on disc 2].
