Ruth Lovell Murray speaks with Kathryn Gladney Ellis about her background in dance; her training as a teacher; her philosophy of teaching including the encouraging of personal creativity; her study of dance, including at the Humphrey-Weidman studio in New York and at Bennington [Bennington College Summer School of the Dance]; her meager performing career; her immediate affinity for the work of Doris Humphrey, Martha Graham and other modern dance choreographers; trends in dance including movement education for children and the greater use of improvisation; teaching composition; rhythmic training [ends abruptly].
