[Sound check.] Nathalie Krassovska speaks about her childhood and family background, including her birth in Leningrad [then Petrograd, now St. Petersburg], moving as a child to Moscow, and her early training with Olga Preobrajenska; emigrating to Paris, France, shortly after being accepted at the Bolshoi Ballet school; her training in Paris; her acceptance into the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo; her mother, who danced with the Ballets russes as Lydia Krassovska; Nathalie's real last name, Leslie; her grandmother, also a former ballet dancer; Preobrajenska's methods for putting students on pointe at an early age; ballerinas whom she particularly admired including Vera Nemchinova, Alexandra Danilova, and Alicia Markova; Sergei Lifar and his engaging her for a South American tour; joining the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as a principal; her family in the United States including her (late) father, Basil Leslie, and her step-mother; an anecdote about being reunited with her mother in Paris; her life in Paris including her family's economic straits; some of her roles, in particular in Michel Fokine's ballets; meeting Queen Mary [consort of George V, King of Great Britain]; dancing Giselle in Paris with Preobrajenska in the audience; her personal life; working on her technique.
