Lucia Chase speaks with John Gruen about Erik Bruhn and how he came to join American Ballet Theatre; Bruhn's illness and what became his farewell performance at the Kennedy Center [John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts]; his subsequent performances with American Ballet Theatre, in The moor's pavane and in Petrouchka; Bruhn's many partners while at American Ballet Theatre including Lupe Serrano; Bruhn as a person and his current relationship with American Ballet Theatre; Antony Tudor and his role at the company; Bruhn's feelings about his retirement; his current physical state.
