Cynthia Gregory speaks with John Gruen about dancing with Erik Bruhn at [American] Ballet Theatre in La sylphide, Miss Julie, and Coppélia; Bruhn's return from retirement to dance in the 35th Anniversary Gala of American Ballet Theatre; Bruhn's learning the role of Othello in [José Limón's] Moor's pavane; dancing with Bruhn in this work including as compared to dancing it with Bruce Marks; the critical response to Bruhn's performance of Othello in Denmark; Bruhn's personality including his views on being an artist and marriage; a project initiated by John Hemminger [Gregory's husband] to make a recording of ballet stars (including Bruhn and Rudolf Nureyev) singing; Bruhn's illness and pain; Bruhn and Carla Fracci's partnership at American Ballet Theatre [ends abruptly but continues on streaming audio file 2].
