Summary: Selma Jeanne Cohen discusses the development and acceptance of dance history as an academic discipline; how she would design a dance history curriculum. Ms. Cohen and Ms. Kreemer describe the recent Society of Dance History Scholars' conference at Barnard College (Western Dance History: Resources and Teaching Methods). Ms. Cohen discusses the role of dance history in writing criticism. Recordings of the Dance of the blessed spirits from Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice and the Polovetsian dances from Borodin's Prince Igor are played.
