Contents
Summary: A real time documentation of performances of Mgodo by musicians and dancers of the Chopi tribe. A Mgodo, meaning "whole show," features a large orchestra of xylophones (timbila) and a group of dancers. After several orchestral introductions, the dance leader and dancers enter carrying shields and a dance stick, spear or axe, and perform a dance in 11 movements, with shouts (kuhauzela) and songs. The verses are highly topical and are related to local history, customs and personages.
