- Signed lower right: Soudeikine. Four grotesque male figures wearing flowing robes and shoulder-length wigs, portraying Paganini's would-be rivals, walk toward the right playing their violins. They are lead by a nude female figure, draperies around legs, who symbolises their sponsor. She holds a long quill pen, used for writing eulogies and stroking their shoulders, and a laurel wreath.
