- SUMMARY: Lecture-demonstration by Professor John Emigh on topeng, a popular form of masked dance drama practiced on the island of Bali. Under discussion is the type of topeng in which a single actor takes all the roles. In three segments: 1) Basic body position and the walk; 2) Variations on the walk; 3) Characterization and use of the mask. Dr. Emigh shows how the Balinese actor interprets the mask's character, developing an appropriate voice and physical movements for each mask.
