  • Subtitle: Ballet comes to Britain. Program VI of a seven-part series presented by Thames Television, London. Producer: Marjory Ruse. Director: Nicholas Ferguson. Written by Peter Brinson. Narrated by David Blair. Performed by members of the Ballet for All group of the Royal Ballet, London. SUMMARY: Discusses the merging of the legacy of Russian classical ballet with the culture of Western Europe and the emergence of British ballet out of this legacy in the 1930's. Three portions of the Ballet Rambert version of Nijinsky's Afternoon of a faun are danced by Christopher Bruce and Marilyn Williams. Then the cancan duet from Massine's Boutique fantasque (1919) is danced by Brenda Last and Johaar Mosavaal, and the hostess' solo from Nijinska's Les biches (1924) is performed by Deanne Bergsma. Nine minutes of excerpts from De Valois' The rake's progress (1935) follow, danced by David Wall (Rake), Alfreda Thorogood, Adrian Grater, Oliver Symons, and Garry Grant.
