Summary
Fred Strickler, a member of the Jazz Tap Ensemble, describes how the company evolved. He started tap dancing at age 11, but turned to modern dance while in college. After graduating, he toured for seven years with Bella Lewitzky, then danced with the Eyes Wide Open Dance Theatre. Later, he opened the Pacific Motions Dance Center. In 1979, Camden Richman, Lynn Dally, and he began performing as the Jazz Tap Percussion Ensemble. He discusses the current renewal of interest in tap dancing and his admiration for Honi Coles. He and Mahoney perform a tap improvisation together.
