- Note
- Rough black and white sketch of set for Antony Tudor's ballet Offenbach in the underworld, premiered by Ballet Theatre, April 18, 1956.
- Loose rendering of a fashionable Parisian cafe of the 1870's during the can can section of the ballet. The bar and tall mirror dominate upstage center with bartender in front and waiter to the left. Tables and chairs ring the dance area with customers watching the performance. Draped doors and windows frame the space and the stage is flanked by swagged curtains. A caryatid stands on the extreme left, holding a light fixture. A line of four can can dancers fills downstage center, rendered in the classic pose, with right leg raised while left leg on the floor bears the weight. Skirts are held in both hands, forming a circle.
