Inscribed in brown ink at lower center: Papillon No. 7. Inscribed in graphite at upper left: No. 23. Inscribed in graphite in body of the drawing: peluch/gaze. Costume design for butterfly in Arthur Sain-Léon's ballet, La source. Depicts a female figure, full length, seen from the back. Her arms are extended to either side and she stands on her right foot, the left leg raised behind her, towards the viewer. Her Romantic tutu is rendered in brown ink only, with butterfly decoration and wings in red, black, brown and yellow. A head piece with delicate antennae is highlighted with gilt paint.
